work it well PROGRAMS

WI Well SOS-Save Our Sisters

With over 200,000 people living in poverty in Alameda County, the Work It Well Project (WIP) has a mission to provide solutions for the most vulnerable members of our community. Our Save our Sisters (SOS) program, serves women faced with hardship, such as, low income, lack of resources and limited options, amongst other adversities. Our objective is to offer WIP support services to women and work with them to change patterns of stagnation in their lives to become healthier, economically stable, safe and inspired to win.

We provide our sisters extensive support that includes, employment placement, career exploration, education, skill building, entrepreneurship coaching, need based resources, housing placement and job referrals. We have worked with hundreds of women, assisting in their transformation, putting them on a track to success. Many women we serve are mothers and our impact goes beyond the individual needs of the mother and extend to her children, family and community. The world works better when women are supported and well.

                                                                       SOS Stories

A young lady in a domestic violence relationship enrolled in the Save Our Sisters program during a dark period in her life. She desired change. Our Work it Well wrap around services helped her to secure affordable housing and consistent employment. She was able to move away from risky work in adult entertainment and obtained a career in a safe industry. In the process of her transformation, she became stable and was able to obtain full custody of her son.

One low-income woman whose only income was from Social Security benefits wanted to transition into the workforce but had very little work experience. Through our in-house job training, she was packaged with work experience opportunities and gained new skills. Our team provided a career opportunity that doubled her income within the same year.

WI Well SOB -Save Our Brothers

A wrap-around program targeting men who experience barriers that set them back from reaching their goals. The program elements are based on the participant’s needs, and include employment placement, entrepreneurship exploration, health, wellness, leadership, life-skills, personal and professional development. Over the 25 years in service, we developed a cohort of partnership organizations, and businesses where clients are placed in employment positions that fit their diverse skills and interests, while providing other necessary services around housing, food, transportation and health. Our objective is to inspire men and find replacement options that can meet them where they are while helping them explore what they can become and creating a safe place for them to share in order for them to find solutions to their life challenges.

“A housing-insecure couple was living in their car through the Covid-19 pandemic when they enrolled in our program for our wrap around services. We assisted the wife in obtaining Social Security benefits, making sure that she was able to get the public assistance that she desperately needed. We also helped her husband secure consistent income by placing him in a temporary job opportunity until we identified an employee partnership in his credentialed career. Additionally they were placed in housing paid for through our partnering agencies, and are now able to sustain on their own.”
